Our story

The story behind the name

Husband and wife Mert and Buket opened Thirty Four in 2020 with their best mate Huso.

The name comes from region 34 in Turkey, where Mert grew up - and the age he was when they opened the doors.

They opened in January 2020, straight into the bushfire summer and then a pandemic. By December, Thirty Four had been named best cafe at the Canberra Region Local Business Awards - in its first year.

Six years on it's still the three of them, and the room fills every morning - tradies, prams, dogs, and regulars who don't need to say their order.

In 2024 the same family opened Rakkas, a modern Turkish dining restaurant on the Kingston Foreshore - one chef hat two years running, and named one of Australia’s must-visit restaurants. Thirty Four is where it all started.

The prices are very reasonable given quality and portion sizes. Do note that the noise level inside the restaurant can be distracting. We will return - a gem for the Queanbeyan CBD!

The eggs were poached well and presentation of the dish was neatly done. Tastes was equal to it. Drinks are also really good too. I ordered a Strawberry matcha and was so thirsty I finished it in less than a minute. This is one of the better cafes in town and is worth a try if you're visiting or looking for breakfast or lunch. The steam bun and French toast were delicious. The Korean sauce on the steam bun was slightly salty, but still enjoyable. The staff were friendly, and I had a great experience overall.

Thirty 4 Cafe & Restaurant in Queanbeyan: Proof that good food knows no borders

· Michelle Taylor

Thirty 4 feels like exactly what it is: a neighbourhood, family-friendly cafe with big‑city flavours, Turkish roots, and a menu that keeps its beloved regulars on their toes and coming back for more … I know I will be!
A luxurious flat white, deep, dark and smooth, with creamy folds of foam. A coffee that I don’t even want to add sweetener to, it is that good.

Queanbeyan cafe cracks top award in first year of business

· Michael Weaver

Opening a cafe in the heart of Queanbeyan amid bushfires and a pandemic proved to be a mere speed bump after the booming eatery was last week named the best cafe at the Canberra Region Local Business Awards.
Thirty 4 cafe and restaurant was named the best by a panel of independent judges who visited 26 other cafes in Canberra and rated them on a range of criteria including ambience, food and service.
